Top Tips for Looking After Your Fume Extraction System

Oct 1, 2020 | News & Articles

At Donaldson BOFA, we’re committed to delivering world-class support before, during, and after the installation of your fume and dust extraction systems. From helping you to understand your legal obligations through to advising you on selecting the right system and ensuring that it is installed correctly.

But we don’t stop there—our global network of sales, service, and distribution resources means we’re on hand once your machine is up and running, whenever you need us.

It is important to look after your system and make sure that it is thoroughly examined to help ensure you don’t experience any unplanned downtime or unexpected maintenance.

Here are some pointers on how to help you best look after your system:

  • Ensure you have the right system for your process – If you are ever unsure about the compatibility of the extraction and filtration system for your specific application, we have a team of specialist engineers to help you decide which Donaldson BOFA system will fit your process and give the best results.
  • Regularly service your system – Guidance varies by country but it’s good practice to implement a regular maintenance schedule. In the UK, health and safety legislation stipulates your LEV equipment must be thoroughly examined and tested every 14 months by a competent engineer. Our expertly trained and independently P601-qualified engineers help customers meet their obligations when it comes to LEV service and testing. Book your LEV test here (UK only).
  • Inspect the installation to ensure extract devices/nozzles/enclosures/hoses are correctly fastened into the optimal position to ensure there is no leakage or uncaptured contaminant.
  • Once a month, disconnect hoses and check for blockages, and make sure that the fan is running smoothly.
  • Log filter changes, as this can give you an idea of filter change intervals for your setup, and aid with replacement filter orders.
  • Make sure to run your extraction system at the lowest possible speed that is still effectively capturing and filtering contaminants, as this will reduce wear on internal components and can increase filter life.
  • Check that the staff using the system are adequately trained.
